Doughboys lose home opener

Last night, Doughboys hosted Rugby Town for their opening home match of the season with a Family Fun Day organised at the same time.

A crowd of 368 enjoyed the entertainment, but, perhaps not the match, which was a scrappy affair dominated by hard work and long balls.

Wellingborough had two good chances to open the scoring, both provided by The Charles, but, neither were finished and that failing was punished ten minutes before half time when a drilled long ball from the keeper found Elliott running free into the box and he drilled past keeper Ganley.

In the second half, Doughboys found it hard to get a rhythm against a hard working, dogged Rugby side, but, got into the game more and had some pressure, but, no real chances, only a free kick drilled over by Charles. In the last minute, a couple;ple of errors and some chasing by Rugby led to a second goal, scored from about a foot out, despite the efforts of defenders
