A Night of Celebration

A Night of Celebration!

Wellingborough Town Football Club held their Presentation Evening recently to celebrate success up and down the club and, for the first time, it involved every section of the Club together – first and development teams, ladies’ section and youth, Scholars and Limitless disability sections were all represented.

Club Chairman, Mark Darnell, welcomed everybody and celebrated all those present, who had all contributed to the success of the season, especially the volunteers who give their time up behind the scenes and are invaluable.

Included was a special presentation to Club President, Laurie Owen, who restarted the club in 2004 through his efforts inspiring others.

After a filling hog roast, First Team Manager, Jake Stone reflected on their season, which had so nearly brought a play-off position, despite everybody giving their all for the team. This was reflected in our wonderful victory in the Hillier Cup Final against a youthful, but, talented Cobblers side.

After a tantalising build up for each, he announced the winners of the awards: –

Supporters’ Player of the Year – Dean Snedker

Players’ Player of the Year – Glenn Walker

Golden Boot – Will Jones

Manager’s Player of the Year – Lloyd Buckby.

Jake also mentioned what a difference to the Club’s outlook, photographer Rob Webb had made.

Development Team Managers, Wayne Bellamy and Sam Duggan provided a run-down of their season, with the award going to a very popular Ben Edwards.

The Ladies Team had suffered relegation this season after their promotion the previous one, but, they were out in force to enjoy their efforts and look to be strong again next year. They have added an Under 16s team to provide a pathway for aspiring players to progress.

The Youth section continues to progress with teams at all ages and the collaboration with Moulton College Scholars all progressing well and providing that community feel to the club that is so important and, in the process, winning County Cups.

The night ended with a DJ entertaining everybody and the thought that work was already going on to make next season an even better one.
